BIRCH TREE STUDIO

Birch Sliver Privacy

Effective August 21, 2026

Here's the whole story, up front: Birch Sliver runs entirely on your Mac. It has no network access at all — no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no trackers. Your files are compressed and encrypted right there on your machine and never leave it. We never see them, and we couldn't if we tried. That's not a promise we're asking you to trust; it's how the app is built.

Everything happens on your device

Birch Sliver does its work locally — compressing and encrypting your files on your own Mac. The app ships with no network permission whatsoever, so it can't phone home, upload anything, or reach the internet even by accident. There's no account to make and nothing to sign in to.

What we collect: nothing

We collect no personal data and no usage data of any kind. No analytics, no telemetry, no ads, no trackers, no cookies. This is the same thing the app's App Store privacy label says: Data Not Collected. There's no dashboard on our end with your name on it, because there's no data to put there.

Your files and your passphrase

Your files stay on your Mac, start to finish. We never receive, see, or store your files or your passphrases. Sealing and unsealing both happen locally; nothing is sent anywhere for processing.

We can't recover your passphrase — on purpose

Because everything is local and we never hold your passphrase, we genuinely cannot recover it or unlock a sealed file for you. There's no backdoor, no master key, and no reset. That's the point of real encryption — but it also means the responsibility for remembering your passphrase is yours. Keep it somewhere safe.

This website

To be straight with you: this page is a plain website, separate from the app. It runs no analytics, sets no cookies, and does no tracking. It's hosted on Vercel, which — like any web host — may keep standard server access logs (things like IP address, browser, and which page was requested) as part of normal operations. See Vercel's privacy policy for what that involves. None of that has anything to do with the app or your files.

No third parties, no sharing, no selling

The app talks to no third-party services because it talks to nothing at all. We don't share data, we don't sell data, and there are no advertising or analytics partners in the picture. There's nothing to share or sell.

Children

Birch Sliver isn't directed at children, and it collects no data from anyone regardless of age — because it collects no data at all.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change how any of this works, we'll update this page and move the effective date at the top. Since the app collects nothing, we don't expect the substance here to change — but if it does, you'll see it here.
