BIRCH TREE STUDIO

Fambush Privacy

Effective October 1, 2026

The short version: Fambush shares dinners, not your day. There is no live location, no location history, and no account with your email or real identity. A beacon's location exists only while the beacon is live, and it's deleted the moment the beacon ends. No ads, no tracking, nothing sold.

How location is used

Fambush uses your iPhone's visit detection to notice when you've stopped somewhere. When that happens, the app checks on your phone whether you're at a restaurant, café or bar, and skips any Quiet Place you've marked (home, work, wherever). Those checks never leave your phone. Fambush never runs continuous location tracking in the background.

When a beacon drops (because you're seated somewhere to eat, or you tapped “We're out”), we store the venue's name and its coordinates so your crew can see it on the map. When the beacon ends (you leave, you end it, or four hours pass), the coordinates are deleted from our server. What stays is the venue name, the time, and the outcome, which is what the scores need.

When you tap “I'm coming”, your phone sends one location so we can work out how far you traveled for distance points. We use it for that calculation and then discard it. When you arrive, your phone sends one location so we can confirm you really made it to the venue. We check it and don't store it.

What we keep

  • An anonymous device ID. It's created when you first open the app, so the server knows which phone is which. It isn't linked to your name, email, phone number or Apple ID.
  • Your display name and colour, in each crew you join. Only that crew's members see them.
  • Crew membership: crew names and who's in each crew.
  • Beacons: venue name, times and outcome. Coordinates only while live, as described above.
  • Points and season standings within your crews.
  • A push notification token, so your crew's beacons can reach you.
  • Whether you've unlocked Fambush. When you buy Unlock Forever, the app sends the server Apple's signed receipt for that purchase, and the server checks Apple's signature. We record that this device holds the unlock. Payment itself is handled entirely by Apple. We never see your card or your Apple ID.

Who can see what

Only members of a crew see that crew's name, members, beacons and standings. There's no public profile, no search, and no chat. In the app you can always see exactly who in each crew receives your beacons. You can turn beacons off for any crew, leave a crew (sharing to it stops immediately), or tap Go dark to pause all sharing at once. Your crew sees a “went dark” badge, never a location.

No ads, no tracking, no selling

There are no ads, no advertising or analytics SDKs, and no crash-reporting services in Fambush. We don't track you across other apps or websites, and we don't sell or share your data with anyone.

Where it lives

The Fambush server runs on Vercel, with its database on Neon (Postgres), both in the United States. Push notifications go through Apple's Push Notification service. Those providers process data only to run the service for us.

Delete everything

In the app, open Settings and tap Delete my data. That removes your device ID, your memberships, your points, your push token and any live beacon from our server, right away. If you own a crew, it passes to the longest-standing member, or is deleted if you were the last one. Deleting the app without doing this leaves your crew membership in place. Use Delete my data first, or ask us on the support page and we'll do it.

Kids

Fambush is meant for families, set up by adults. It isn't directed at children under 13.
